Meal worms are a good way to encourage the natural instinct of many animals to forage. They are very easy to gut load with a variety of vegetables to improve to make them an even healthier food source. They contain 12 of the 16 elements that are found in living tissues. They are rich in vitamins A and B which are essential for proper growth, nutrition, and nervous system maintenance. Meal worms are a great choice for many insect eating pets and and are easy to keep for an extended period with little care. They should be kept refrigerated between 42 and 50 degrees, where they become dormant and stay in good condition for 30 - 45 days. You can extend that life if you take them out of the refrigerator about once a week and feed them vegetables for 12 to 24 hours, then remove all the vegetables and put back in the refrigerator. This insures that they stay hydrated and do not starve while they are dormant.
